For some fans, college football conjures up feelings of returning home, a sense of belonging within a shared community, or a sunny Saturday morning with strangers that become family. An institution that has become the beating heart of Blacksburg, VA, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University — more commonly known as Virginia Tech — is a school that is one with the town and all of its inhabitants. When there's a game at Lane Stadium, the building calls all who cheer for the maroon and orange. Maddy McVey, a native of Richlands, VA, has the distinct pleasure of being a diehard fan of the Hokies as well as the Assistant Athletics Director of In-Venue Experience for Virginia Tech Athletics.
On the latest episode of SVG GameDay, McVey highlights how the team balances in-venue shows for every single program, how collegiate athletics lean heavily on longtime gameday traditions, areas where more modern elements can be infused in the run of show, the emotions that are associated with activating "Enter Sandman", her growth during her initial years with HokieVision, how she's been to nearly every home football game in her liftetime, and much more.
