The 150th running of the Kentucky Derby was one for the ages as an upset winner, Mystic Dan, took the spoils in a photo finish that drew more viewers to the event than any year since 1989. NBC Sports was there to cover all of the action on a memorable day at Churchill Downs.
In this episode of SVG Rewind, we reflect on the television production with NBC Sports senior producer Lindsay Schanzer and director Kaare Numme on how they handled the dramatic finish in the truck, how they covered the story of a new paddock at the track, and how a new specialty camera positioned at the finish line for the first time ended up being vitally important.
