The legacy of Hammerin' Hank Aaron, arguably the most recognizable name in Atlanta Braves' history, still reverberates. So much so, Major League Baseball knew that they would tip their cap to the baseball legend when the 2025 MLB All-Star Game came to Truist Park. Through a suggestion by CC Sabathia — who serves as a special assistant to Commissioner Rob Manfred, is a longtime advocate of black baseball players and the Negro Leagues, and will be an upcoming inductee into the National Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend — and the technological support of Image Engineering, the 95th Midsummer Classic was highlighted by a seventh-inning tribute that featured physical elements like pyrotechnics and lighting and modern techniques like projection mapping.
In this edition of SVG Rewind, MLB's Senior Manager, Global Event Experience & Game Presentation, Caylor Escalante, and Image Engineering's VP, Operations, Ian Bottiglieri detail why the tribute went in this creative direction, the challenges of executing an activation of this size, the technology that made it possible, and how this production took social media by storm.
