Reclaiming the Rings: NRK’s All-Platform Strategy For Milano Cortina 2026

Norway once again topped the medal table at the Winter Games, with a record 18 gold medals at Milano Cortina 2026. And fourteen years after holding full free-to-air Olympic rights, the county’s public broadcaster NRK returned to the Winter Games with a clear mission: to reunite a fragmented national audience around a shared sporting moment.
This panel will explore how NRK balanced mass-reach linear storytelling with digital access while prioritising Norway’s strongest medal sports. It will also examine how editorial priorities shaped production planning and rights decisions and how coverage focused on athlete reactions and national narratives during a historic Games.
Speakers will also unpack the hybrid production model linking Oslo with multiple Italian venues, including OB and flypack setups, ENG deployment, bonded connectivity, one-person control rooms, XR experimentation and a first-time 1080p workflow - highlighting what worked, what proved complex, and the lessons informing future Olympic cycles.
Speakers:
Jostein Jære Fjeldskår, NRK, Producer
Øyvind Nyborg, NRK, Director
