Sports Broadcasting Hall of Famer Gene Mikell, a nine-time Emmy Award-winning video engineer and longtime Fox Sports production veteran, passed away on July 8, 2026, at the age of 87.
A pioneer in sports television, Mikell helped develop and install groundbreaking in-car camera systems for NASCAR and spent decades shaping the look of major live broadcasts as one of the industry’s most respected video engineers and camera shaders.
Inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2018, Mikell leaves behind a remarkable legacy of technical innovation, mentorship, professionalism, and kindness.
