Whoda thunk it? The hottest team in the NHL is the Buffalo Sabres. Unbeaten since the league's return from the Olympic break and winners of seven straight games, the Sabres currently sit atop the standings in the Atlantic Division and are on pace to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2011 (that's the longest playoff drought [14 years] in NHL history).
It's been an exciting season for the live production team within the Sabres organization, which produces games and distributes them through the New York City-based regional sports network, MSG Networks. On the night of March 3, however, the crew got a little more than they had bargained for. During a Sabres home game against the Vegas Golden Knights at KeyBank Center, the internal communications system within the television truck failed during the first intermission. It left the entire crew without comms for the remainder of the game.
On the latest episode of SVG Rewind, we sit down with the two men who sat of the front bench of that broadcast - veteran Sabres director Matt Gould and producer Brian Maas - to discuss what happened, How the highly-experienced crew responded, and what they would do differently next time.
