Slimetime returned to the Gridiron for Christmas Day as CBS Sports and Nickelodeon teamed up to bring the multi-Emmy Award winning alternative presentation to last week’s Raiders-Chiefs Matchup. The Nickmas game was once again filled with Christmas-themed AR graphics aimed at drawing in the next generation of NFL fans, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the booth and on the field, Santa Clause running routes as a receiver, a Yetti tossing snowballs all over the stadium, a candy cane telestrator, and – of course – Slime Canons erupting in the end zone.
After the game, Shawn Robbins, who served as coordinating producer of the game, and Kurt Hartman, VP, Animation/Motion Graphics, Nickelodeon, sat down with SVG to discuss the latest chapter in CBS and Nickelodeon’s ‘Nickified’ NFL broadcasts, how their production workflows have evolved over the years, and what to expect when the format returns for the first ever Super Bowl alternate broadcast next month.
