ESPN may be known for its main headquarters in Bristol, CT, but a ton of technological infrastructure and live broadcasts are done from their facility in Charlotte, NC. Originally opened in 1999, the 25-year-old building has become an integral part of the network's large number of collegiate athletics productions as well as improvements in their cloud-based workflows.
At the SVG Remote Production Forum, ESPN's Production Operations Supervisor Lacey Gandee details the evolution of the Charlotte-based facility, provides advice for network's looking to open up a remote-production-capable facility of their own, and why improvements in technology are allowing for enhanced creativity in televised programming.
