The Columbus Crew is one of Major League Soccer's most respected franchises. One of the nine remaining clubs since the league's inaugural year in 1996, both the Crew and their home venue — ScottsMiracle-Gro Field in downtown Columbus — are closely tied to the sport of soccer in the United States. Hosting many events including the 2026 U.S. Open Cup Final on Oct. 21, friendlies for the U.S. Men's and Women's National Teams, the home schedule of the Crew, and the future fixtures of the upcoming National Women's Soccer League expansion team in 2028, the building has become a hub of activity. At the heart of many of these shows is Erik Shear, who serves as Senior Manager of Scoreboard Operations for the Columbus Crew.
On the latest episode of SVG GameDay, Shear spotlights the venue's growth since its first match in 2021, the feelings associated with winning three major trophies in six seasons, how his love for the Cleveland Cavaliers led to his first role in professional sports, his first experience with live productions at Westlake High School, and much more.
