Notre Dame Studios is among the most advanced video-production outfits in all of college sports, complete with state-of-the art facilities and a top notch production team. Technology from Riedel Communications plays a major role in Irish Athletics Department's video operation, including a variety of intercom systems, as well as SimplyLive software-driven live production and official review platforms. At the 2025 SVG College Summit, University of Notre Dame video engineer Shawn Deweerd joined Greg Macchia, VP Business Development, Live Production Tools, Riedel Communications to discuss their collaboration and what's on the horizon
Notre Dame's Riedel intercom system includes an Artist frame, SmartPanels, and 30 Bolero wireless beltacks for campus-wide events. In addition, Notre Dame implemented SimplyLive's RefBox system to meet the increased replay needs for new NCAA mandates (e.g., men’s and women’s lacrosse, baseball, and softball). Currently, the RefBox system is also used for football stats review—allowing quick replay access in the press box to confirm plays before public announcements. Notre Dame also used the Simplylive production license for NDI-based broadcasts of rugby club matches, taking advantage of campus networking for flexible deployment.
Riedel's comms ecosystem integrates seamlessly with Simplylive’s tools, offering scalable solutions for both high-end and cost-conscious schools. The Simplylive suite, now part of the Riedel offering, provides intuitive live production tools ideal for the college market, making Riedel a near one-stop shop for communications, video infrastructure, and production. In addition, Riedel has established a dedicated vertical for education, including specialized sales reps for both Riedel and Simplylive to better serve college athletics and classroom needs. With this emphasis on student involvement and education, Riedel aims to empower students with hands-on experience in live production, storytelling, and media workflows.
