This year, VOKKERO, which was acquired by VOGO in 2019, is celebrating 20 years as a leader in wireless communication systems for sporting events. SVG's Jason Dachman sat down with Bob D'Ostilio, Director of Business Development and Sales at Vokkero by VOGO NA, to discuss the company's evolution and its expanded role in officiating communications.
Vokkero started by enabling in-game communication among officiating crews, helping with real-time collaboration and game management. Today, their systems are now integrated into broader video review workflows, linking on-field officials to remote command centers, making officiating more broadcast-integrated.
There's now growing demand for systems that connect referees to off-site video review centers, helping centralize and standardize officiating decisions. With the introduction of the VOKKERO Elite Smart Gateway, remote technicians can monitor and manage referee audio, battery life, and wireless interference. The solution ingests camera feeds, allowing video referees to review footage and communicate with on-field officials in real time. In addition, the system dynamically manages frequency channels to deal with the increasingly crowded RF environments in stadiums.
As the company looks to the future, VOGO sees growth in their video solutions, targeting cost-effective, high-quality systems for mid-major college sports programs. The college space continues to be a major opportunity, with particular interest in sports like soccer, softball, and baseball. Watch the interview to learn more.
