Yannik Grewe, Fraunhofer IIS’ senior manager for media technologies & business development, focusing on the MPEG-H 3D Audio ecosystem, spent time with SVG discussing MPEG-H immersive and interactive audio for major live events, such as the European Athletics Championships, and its place in Brazil’s and South Korea’s next-gen broadcast infrastructure, as well as its inclusion in the US’ ATSC 3.0 standard.

Among the topics discussed are the benefits and challenges for immersive sound in broadcast sports, in addition to the personalization and interactive features that MPEG-H enables.
