In what has quickly become Boston's "hottest ticket in town," the PWHL Walter Cup Finals will return to the sold-out Tsongas Center tonight for a winner-take-all Game 5. With plenty of eyeballs expected on the broadcast across the U.S. and Canada, The PWHL's U.S. production partner Raycom Sports is pulling out all the stops for the showdown between Boston and Minnesota. Most notably, the PWHL and Raycom Sports have partnered with Sky Candy Studios to produce live drone coverage inside the venue that will includes close up shots near the ice.
With full access to the ice during live gameplay, the drone will have a level of access rarely seen on a live sports broadcast throughout tonight's decisive Game 5. Raycom Sports VP of Engineering and Technology Operations Bill Stafford and Sky Candy Studios Founder and Chief Operator Michael Welsh sat down with SVG's Jason Dachman to offer an inside look at how the partnership came about, what the live drone adds to the broadcast, how they dealt with the myriad logistical challenges, and what they're most excited for tonight in Game 5.
