After opening in Prague over the weekend, the NHL 2024-25 season begins in North America tonight with an opening night tripleheader on ESPN and ESPN+. ESPN’s NHL studio show, The Point, is emanating live from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City with a GameDay-style atmosphere celebrating the highly-anticipated franchise debut of the Utah Hockey Club.
ESPN's VP of Production Linda Schulz joined SVG live from the network's setup in Salt Lake to discuss the excitement around the new franchise and why ESPN opted to centralize its opening-night tripleheader coverage there. In addition, she chats about ESPN's plans to deploy at MindFly bodycam on Utah’s backup goalie during the morning skate and warm-ups, as well as other tech toys ESPN will roll out this year for its NHL coverage. Schulz also touches on ESPN’s plans for the league's major 2024-25 events, including the "Frozen Frenzy" covering 16 NHL games on Oct. 22 and the World Cup-style 4 Nations Face-Off in February.
