Full-time production staff across the country set the foundation for a successful in-venue show, but the beating heart of these shows in the control room are the freelancers. These individuals dedicate so much time out of their daily lives to entertain fans in the seats, and with teams sharing the same group of local talent, a sense of camaraderie and team chemistry is felt on gameday. Down at the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, three venues in close proximity to each other allow freelancers to work for the City of Brotherly Love's four professional clubs. Corinne Yamada — who served as a Game Presentation Graphic Design Intern for the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers from 2011-2012, Director of Game Operations and Marketing for the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms from 2012-2013, and Manager of Game Presentation for the Flyers from 2013-2019 — is one of those freelancers that is heavily involved in the graphics creation and implementation for the Flyers, NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, and MLB's Philadelphia Phillies.
On the latest episode of SVG GameDay, Yamada talks about she leverages her full-time experience in her current work, the preparation that goes into executing her portion of the show, how she adapts on the fly to create visuals that tap into the flow of the game, how content is adjusted to accommodate theme nights, how she balances her schedule as a freelancer, and much more.
